Our Promise to Players
Trivia Owl trades on being the clever one in the room. That obliges us to actually be right. This page explains how we try to be.
Where the Facts Come From
Questions are written in-house. Facts are checked against scientific literature, wildlife and conservation organisations, museums, academic folklore and mythology scholarship, and established published sources.
Two of our categories carry particular risk. Animal facts are riddled with statistics that were exaggerated once and repeated forever. Myths and legends are, by definition, stories — so we’re careful to distinguish between what a legend says and what actually happened. Where we’re describing a myth, we say we’re describing a myth.
How We Verify
Every question is checked before publication, and every article is reviewed by an editor. If a claim traces only to other trivia sites and listicles, that is not a source, and we drop it.
Where experts disagree, or where a fact is true only in specific circumstances, we say so rather than smoothing it into something more quotable.
Owning Our Mistakes
Even the wise bird misses. We publish a lot of material, and sooner or later something will be wrong.
So here’s the deal. We put the work in up front to avoid errors — that’s what the checking is for, and it’s why some very entertaining “facts” never make it onto the site. But when one does slip past us, we fix it quickly, we correct it properly rather than quietly deleting it, and where it mattered we say what changed.
If we’ve got something wrong, tell us at contact@triviaowl.com. Bring the source if you have one. We’ll take the correction over the pride.
Independence
Trivia Owl is advertising-supported. Advertisers have no say in our questions, our topics or our articles, and we don’t publish paid content disguised as editorial.
Technology and Human Review
We use software tools to help with research, drafting and editing. Nothing publishes without a person reading it first, and what appears here is our responsibility.
